Stranded

The lovely Lara of Her Name Was Lola asked me what I would want to have with me if I were stranded on a desert island... Here are a couple hints:

Check out her blog to find out what I said...

The 2 Week Countdown

Remember when I was contemplating where to move??? Back in March I had pulled together a few outfits to get an idea of what I would wear in said corresponding cities (Portland, New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco).

Well, we've decided on a place and we move in 2 WEEKS!!!

PORTLAND here we come!!!

(Portland's outfit from March's Where Next post)

So, now I need to know... Am I going to need a total rain-proof look by Slow and Steady Wins the Race & Stand Up Comedy??? The waterproof pumps are kind of intriguing...

Now the job and apartment hunt begins... If you live in Portland, I'd love to hear from you!

Sometimes

Sometimes, even in the Spring and Summer, Black is just the best...

I love the paper-bag waist shorts she has on. From what I could decipher from the Swedish, the shorts are from Gina Tricot... Which upon further inspection seems to be a lower priced fashion retailer in the Scandinavian countries... Hmmm, slight feelings of jealousy!

Here are some other simple but lovely peices from the Gina Tricot site... (sigh)

Note(s) to Self

1. Vintage Demin Jacket + 90's Floral Dress + Beat Up Tennies ala Michelle Williams = Yes! This combo hardly ever goes wrong! (via Popsugar)

2. One color dressing! I've already mentioned how much I loved this girl's denim-on-denim look and then she one up'd it with pink-on-pink! My jaw nearly dropped - She obviously has found a formula that works for her. I have never been a huge pink fan, but sometimes it just seems right. (via Garance Dore)

3. The way an "oversized" shirt should be worn! I love the simplicity of this look and that it seems so all her own. Plus, I would NEVER think to pick up those shorts, but they look great! (via The Sartorialist)

And did you notice that 2 out of 3 of these ladies is carrying a canvas bag... My fave!

In The Company of Men

When it comes to Men's style, I am basically obsessed with this blog (not to mention the amazing women's wear inspiration)...

Ask Camp Comfort: Floral Skirts

Camp Comfort reader, Esther, recently wrote into Ask Camp Comfort needing some suggestions for a top to pair with her new floral skirt. Generally Esther would gravitate towards a solid tee or tank (always a good option), but wanted find another style of top to spice up the look.... Here are my recomendations:

Got a mini or ditzy floral skirt - Try a plaid top!

Found a bold floral beauty - Try a stripe top!

The key elements to mixing patterns are... Keep the general color theme the same between top and bottom, Stick to one outfit theme (i.e. Bohemian, Preppy, Grunge, etc.), Try to balance a bold print with a subtle print, When in doubt keep it simple, And don't forget silhouette balance!

Clothing: F21 Ruffle Plaid Top ($24.80), A.P.C Skirt Hamilton Skirt ($200), Kimchi Blue Plaid Top ($48), Steven Alan Boardwalk Liberty Skirt ($205), F21 Stripe Pocket Tank ($11.80), F21 Distorted Floral Skirt ($13.80), Topshop Cropped Stripe Tank ($28), Mink Pink Senorita Skirt ($69.99).

The Fabric

I just saw this Cotton commercial while watching TV - Have you seen this??

Zooey Deschanel is beyond adorable, of course, and I love that it's actually her singing their jingle. Once you get past the odd commercial angle, it's a pretty cute video. She's even sporting some Dear Creatures!

YES!

Everything about this is near perfection:

- Tie
- Hair
- Red Lips & Nails
- Van

This post should have a sub-title: "How to Pull Off a Tie"

Two Necklaces

Thinking one of these pretties might be really cute paired with a simple tee or racer-back tank...

An easy and flirty grunge-esque look inspired by these girls...

Joy!

The new Frankie arrived in my mailbox yesterday - YAY!!!

Only problem is, at first glance, it's gotten me excited for Fall... It's not even Summer yet!!!! I guess that might be one drawback to reading an Australian magazine :)

Ask Camp Comfort: Dresses to Elope In

Let's start this week's Ask Camp Comfort with a big congratulations to reader, Jennifer, who is eloping in Maine this September! Congrats!

So, Jennifer wrote in looking for some suggestions for a casual dress with a bit of coverage (for Maine in September) to get married in. And she was sure to qualify that the dress did not have to be white (and I agree)! So here are some pretty and slightly alternative dresses to get hitched in...

Rachel Comey Observation Dress ($430), Rebecca Taylor Lace Dress ($395), Rika Anastasia Dress ($247), Toast Coco Dress ($235), See by Chloe Wave Print Dress ($366), See by Chloe Floral Smock Dress ($600).

I think if I were to elope now, I would go for a mini-dress look inspired by Audrey Hepburn...

Tibi Dress ($428), Ban.Do no.94 ($165), Rose colored Repettos ($235).

This Might Be It

This might finally be the year I get a pair of Kork Ease (after coveting them for several summers)! But what color?

Kork Ease Ava ($134.95)

Does anyone know how these run in size?

(I guess I am going to have to start moderating comments, as I woke up to 95 spam comments this morning!!!!!!!!!!!!!! UGH!)

A Few Things (from around the web)

A few things that caught my eye this past week...

From what I can tell, these Keds are not currently available in the US, but don't you love the Guatemalan fabric! (via Hypebeast)

I want to wear this Kill City tank dress everyday, I love the black and white etched pattern. (via Alter)

Pretty sweet overalls from the new XLarge lookbook... probably not something I would actually wear, but it made me sort of nostalgic for my XGirl loving high school days - Does anyone else remember Kim Gordon's X-Girl brand??? I believe the whole XLarge/XGirl brand is now owned by a Japanese company.... Anyways... (link here)

Two items I love from the Pency lookbook... I am digging the sort of starry night print on the dress on the left. And as a Southern California girl who has spent many-a-day at Disneyland, the Mickey ears t-shirt dress is comical.

Happy Mom's Day!

I inherited many endearing traits from my mother, a couple of them being my right-brained creative side and my love of fashion.... Here is a photo of my mom, Jane, in her hippie-renaissance faire-going-days. She made beautifully intricate and hand-crafted jewelry from things she found in nature (feathers, shells, seeds, etc.) to sell at the faires and in shops in Los Angeles and Southern California. In this photo she is wearing a beaded leather halter and skirt that she made herself!

Love you, Mom!

Living The Dream (and the Master Plan)

I LOVE reading interviews with boutique store owners, like this one with NYC store owner Maryam Nassir Zadeh... Oh to be ridiculously fashionable and own a store...

I'll fill you in on my little "master plan"... I am hoping to someday (soonish) transition Camp Comfort into a brick-n-mortar boutique... My own little clubhouse as my husband recently put it.

So, what do you think? Would you shop the Camp Comfort store???

(photos via Refinery 29)

Hello, Friday!

What I would like to be wearing today...

Sort of channeling my inner 5-year-old...Dear Creatures Dress ($72 - not sure where I found this picture??) and Marc by Marc Jacobs Lace-Ups ($350)

Since 1937

I am sort of mesmerized by the chic simplicity of Madewell's Look Book, but I have never been to any of their stores... Has anyone shopped Madewell??

(Have you ever noticed that their logo has a tag line that says "Since 1937" - what's that all about???)

Buy These Sandals

I picked up a pair of these Double Buckle sandals by Pink Studio at Anthropologie today and they are totally amazing... They even have a rubber sole for walking comfort and at just $68, you can't go wrong!

Wanted: Summertime Lace-Ups

You fell in love with oxfords (brogues, jazz shoes, what have you) this past Fall, but they're not just for cool weather.... This new crop of leather lace-ups will keep you light on your feet all Spring and Summer long!

Repetto ($270), Maud ($182), Cut Out and Rafia at Topshop ($90 - $100), Camper ($145), Labour of Love ($90)

And they're fantastically cute and quirky when paired with a dress...

Steven Alan Cruiser Dress ($235), Topshop Leather Bag ($100), Rachel Comey Oxford ($305).

Happy Monday everyone!
